Courses in collaboration with the  European Genetics Foundation
The European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) has developed a partnership with the European Genetics Foundation (EGF), a non-profit organization dedicated to advanced training in human genetics and preventive medicine in Europe and to the public understanding of genetics. The EGF, with its headquarters in Bologna (Italy), organizes courses in the charming venues of Bertinoro and Bologna (Italy).
Courses in human genetics offered by the EGF began in 1988 with the first course in Medical Genetics of the European School of Genetic Medicine. Courses include:
  • Medical Genetics
It is a week-long post-graduate level course intended for both researchers and clinicians seeking an up-to-date overview of the field of medical genetics today.

  • Cancer Genetics
This course covers the field from pathophysiology to molecular genetics through genetic counselling and applications in the clinic.

  • Genetic Counselling in Practice
This course is intended for paramedical professionals (genetic nurses, genetic counsellors) or other health care professionals (primary care physicians, genetic laboratory personnel) seeking to familiarize themselves with the indications for and process of genetic counselling.

  • Developmental Biology and Dysmorphology
A post-graduate level program directed primarily at clinical geneticists, paediatricians, neonatologists.

  • Molecular Cytogenetics
It is a post-graduate course intended for both cytogeneticists and clinicians involved in the evaluation of patients for constitutional or acquired chromosomal rearrangements.

  • Thalassemia
This course deals with all aspects of hemoglobinopathy prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

  • Bioinformatics for Molecular Biologists
The course offers a comprehensive view onto contemporary, frequently used approaches in bioinformatics for the interpretation of biological data. Lectures and workshops address key topics in bioinformatics relevant for the lab scientist.

  •  Statistical Genetic Analysis of Complex Phenotypes
The course is intended for researchers directly involved in the statistical analysis of complex traits and disorders, and will primarily address the methods and applications of genetic association and linkage studies. It will consist of general lectures followed by hands-on computer-based workshops and more research-oriented seminars.

  • Comparative and Functional Genomics
It provides the key to functional analyse genes and their interaction which leads towards a better understanding of data from the Human Genome Project.
