When it was built in 1929 to serve as the pavilion for the arts at the Barcelona International Exposition, the Spanish Village was originally destined for demolition. However, it proved such a success that it was spared, just like another famous attraction intended as a temporary structure: the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Two architects and two artists, by the names of Folgers, Raventós, Utrilloand Nogués, spent almost two years travelling the length and breadth of the mainland to select the most representative features of each period and region. |
| The end result was a structured and habitable village, complete with colonnaded Main Square, hall, streets, manor houses, fountain, church and monastery, and also craftsmen and traders... In three words: a living village. Just a stone's throw from the central Plaça d'Espanya and the verdant slopes of Montjuïc, the 49,000 m2 of the village is at our disposal. |
