If you're in the mood for a hearty meal, how about sampling the delights on Franconian menus, which traditionally include “Schäufale mit Kloss und Soss” (roasted pork shoulder with dumplings and gravy) or Sauerbraten (marinated beef). You should definitely try the local delicacies!

Safety - Crime
Nürnberg can be considered as a safe city, when using common sense.
Unfortunately experience has shown that some basic precautionary measures should always be kept in mind in any city:
- Do not carry important items like flight tickets, passports etc. with you when visiting the conference or strolling through the city, leave them in the hotel safe during your stay. Rather carry a Xerox copy of your passport or an identity card with you.
- Try not to carry all documents, money, credit cards and other essential items and valuables in one bag. If it is lost or stolen, everything will be gone and might be difficult to replace on short notice, especially passports and visa to return to your country of residence.
- Take off your name badge when leaving the conference center.

Shops
Large shops and department stores are open between 9.30 am and 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. All shops, with the exception of small souvenir shops, are closed on Sunday. All major credit cards are generally accepted, but it is not possible to pay with foreign banknotes.

Smoking Policy
The ESHG 2012 is officially a “No-smoking-Conference”. Note that smoking is banned in public buildings, restaurants and bars.

Staff
If you should have any questions, the congress staff recognizable by a yellow badge and a black polo shirt will be pleased to help you.

Taxis
Taxis in Nürnberg can be considered as "friendly and service oriented". For information about journey times and prices and to make reservations, call: +49 911 / 19410

Telephones
Many public phones only accept prepaid phone cards (available at newsagents) or credit cards. The country code of Germany is 49 and the area code for Nürnberg is 911. If calling Nürnberg from within Germany, dial 0911 before the subscriber number.

Tipping
Tips are not obligatory, but they are welcome. The norm is 5-10%, but for smaller bills in cafés and bars it's customary to round up to the nearest whole number.

Travelling - Accessibility - Public Transportation
The Nürnberg Conference Center has its own railway station ("Messe") and is about 8 minutes travelling time by subway from the Nürnberg Central Station and about 25 minutes from Nürnberg Airport.
The single ticket is the perfect choice if you're only looking to make one journey. It allows you to hop on and off as and when you please and even break up your journey. The price category 2 ticket is valid for 90 minutes and allows you to travel in one direction only.
If you only intend to travel on public transport now and again, your best option is the 10-Streifenkarte (10-stripe ticket) or the 5-Streifenkarte (5-stripe ticket). This type of ticket can be used for several passengers too. In this instance, one “stripe” is used per person.
The solo day ticket is a good option for individuals travelling alone. The day ticket plus, meanwhile, is perfect for groups of up to six people with a maximum of 2 adults. Both of these tickets allow you to travel wherever and whenever you want for an entire day.
