Seventh Annual European DNA Day Essay Contest
for High School Students
The Winners have been selected!
The European Society of Human Genetics was delighted that students from 17 European countries submitted 163 essays this year. The evaluation was made involving 35 experts in the field, who selected the following 4 winners and 13 honourable mentions.
The names of the winners (and those who received honourable mention) will be announced in front of almost 3.000 international scientists and doctors attending the European Human Genetics Conference in Milan on June 3, 2014.
Winners, as well as honourable mentions will receive a diploma within the next weeks. Acknowledgements will be sent to all submitters.
The "Downloads"-section of website will be updated shortly with memorable quotes.

Online Premiere
In celebration of National DNA Day, we present the online premiere of "The Animated Genome."
Question 2014
Complex traits, such as blood pressure, height, cardiovascular disease, or autism, are the combined result of multiple genes and the environment. For ONE complex human trait of your choosing, identify and explain the contributions of at least one genetic factor AND one environmental factor. How does this interplay lead to a phenotype? Keep in mind that the environment may include nutrition, psychological elements, and other non-genetic factors.
Prizes
First Place Winner: EUR 300.- In addition, sponsoring teachers of first place students will receive EUR 1.000.- to organise a science project or to purchase classroom equipment.
Second Place Winner: EUR 200.-
In addition, sponsoring teachers of first place students will receive EUR 800.- to organise a science project or to purchase classroom equipment
Third Place Winner: EUR 100.-
In addition, sponsoring teachers of first place students will receive EUR 500.- to organise a science project or to purchase classroom equipment
All participants will receive a certificate of appreciation for their participation in the contest.
Italian Society rewards best national submissions
The Italian Society of Human Genetics (SIGU) will, as in previous years, award additional prizes and diplomas to Italian students having participated in the ESHG Contest. The winners will be announced at the Annual Meeting of the SIGU.
