ESHG Course Support Framework
ESHG offers two types of support for genetics education courses: ESHG Organised Courses, and Courses with ESHG Fellowships. The table below summarises the key differences so you can quickly identify the scheme that best fits your course.

ESHG Organised Courses
Overview
ESHG assumes full organisational responsibility for these courses, including budget, logistics and administration. The scientific programme is developed by the submitter and reviewed by the ESHG Education Committee; the budget is reviewed by the Executive Board following assessment by the ESHG Office.
What ESHG provides as support
- Venue contracting
- Registration management
- Financial administration and budget responsibility
- Course website (hosted as a sub-page of the ESHG website) or by submitter
- Promotion among ESHG membership
- Fellowship administration, where applicable
- Support with the CME accreditation application
Guidelines & responsibilities of the submitter
- Develop the scientific programme, including sessions, presentation titles and speaker
- Not enter into any contractual agreements with venues, suppliers or Professional Congress Organisers (PCOs)
- Ensure course material states: “Course organised by the European Society of Human Genetics” (or, where applicable, “…in cooperation with [Institution]”)
Eligibility
- The course must focus on human genetics
- Course organiser must be an ESHG Member
- The course scope must be compatible with the objectives of the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) (see ESHG Statutes).
- The course must be financially viable.
- The course must be scientifically independent and must not be company-driven or primarily promotional in nature.
- The course must take place in Europe.
- The course must not duplicate an existing course within the ESHG course portfolio (see current ESHG Courses).
- The maximum number of participants must not exceed 100.

- Objectives
- Target audience
- Sessions
- Presentation titles
- Speakers
- Educational needs, Gaps Identified and how this proposal will address gaps
- Logistics (delivery format - in person, hybrind, online, course package details - what is included?)
- Biosketches of course organisers
- Participants' evaluation report from the past edition, if available
- Event scope and requirements, including:
- Minimum and maximum number of expected participants
- Potential for external sponsorship, and by which companies or bodies
- Accommodation for faculty
- Travel support for faculty
- Preferred venue
- AV requirements
- Any specific hardware or software requirements
- Planned F&B functions (e.g. coffee breaks, lunches, receptions)
- Whether CME accreditation is required
Submission deadline
1 October 2026, 1 April 2027 and 1 September 2027
Applications should be submitted 8 months in advance to the planned starting date of the course
Notification
All submitters will be notified about the outome of their application 1 month after the deadline
ESHG Fellowship Courses
Overview
These are externally organised courses. The organising institution remains fully responsible for course delivery, and the scientific programme is developed by the organiser and reviewed by the ESHG Education Committee. ESHG provides financial support in the form of participant fellowships.
What ESHG provides
- Fellowships for up to EUR 10,000 per course
- Centralised fellowship administration through the ESHG Office, including review of applications, selection of awardees, and communication of the final list of recipients to course organisers
Guidelines & responsibilities of the organiser
- Full responsibility for course delivery
- Specify in the application what the fellowship amount is expected to cover for course participants (e.g. registration, travel and/or accommodation)
- Ensure course materials state: “Fellowships supported by the European Society of Human Genetics” with link to the ESHG website.
- Display the ESHG logo on the course website, course mobile app and printed materials
- The organiser must be an ESHG Member
- Provide a post-course report (ESHG Office will provide the form with the information required)
- Note that ESHG does not provide administrative support and does not assume responsibility for, or cover, any potential budget deficit
Eligibility
Fellowship recipients must be current ESHG members at the time the fellowship is awarded. Priority will be given to early-career scientists, applicants working in resource-limited research environments, and applicants from low- and middle-income economies.
- The course must focus on human genetics.

- The course must be scientifically independent and must not be company-driven or primarily promotional in nature.

Notification
All submitters will be notified about the outome of their application 1 month after the deadline
Recurring Courses with ESHG Fellowships
Recurring courses that received ESHG fellowships within the previous two years must follow the same application process, but with simplified documentation requirements. The same guidelines and requirements described above continue to apply, and courses must be resubmitted and reconfirmed for fellowship support annually.

- Any anticipated major changes (e.g. attendance, expenses, sponsorship)
