The ESHG International Observership Programme

ESHG Observership for Young Geneticists Programme

The ESHG coordinates the “ESHG Observership for Young Geneticists” which is an important educational initiative that offers support each year  for 5 young human geneticists who wish to observe specific areas of clinical care or laboratory techniques at prestigious European human genetics departments.

The “ESHG Observership for Young Geneticists”  Program will cover broad learning objectives and facilitate knowledge sharing and expertise in the field of human genetics.

This program is designed for young geneticists currently in training, especially from economically-developing countries.

This observership is an educational experience that consists of observing the workflow and activities of an institution specialized in human genetics. The observers are under the direct supervision of the senior member of the department faculty where they are assigned. The observers must not disclose, cause or permit the disclosure of any confidential information to any person. At the end of the observership a certificate will be awarded.

Every year between 1st September and 30st November candidates can send their documents. Notifications of acceptance are expected to be available by the beginning of January. The awardees will have until August 31, 2025 to visit the selected department - otherwise the funding will be forfeited.

Each awardee will be expected to write a brief report on their experience to share with the ESHG membership online/via the newsletter.

The selected candidates will be mentioned each year during the ESHG Conference.

The applicants will be selected by the ESHG Education Committee (EduCom).
