Legal Regulation of Genetic Testing in Europe

Legal Regulation of Genetic Testing in Europe

The objective of this section is to give an overview of the current European-legislation and to highlight some legislative similarities and differences between individual countries by providing examples of national legal provisions related to genetic testing (e.g. Austria, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland), as well as to present recent initiatives of the Council of Europe. In addition, a legal case that shows how genetic knowledge may turn up (wrongly) in court is presented. Overviews in form of PowerPoint presentations were given at the Workshop "Legal regulation of genetic testing" which was held at the ESHG-Conference on June 14, 2010 in Goteborg, Sweden. This section will be continuosly updated along with evolving legal regulation in Europe.
